Ethiopia Gore Dako G1 Washed
Washing Station: Gore Dako Washing Station by Kata Muduga
Altitude: 2000+ masl
Variety: Heirloom
Process: Washed
Drying: 6-8 Days on Raised Beds
Grown high in the forested mountaintops of Agaro in Ethiopia’s Jimma zone, this washed heirloom selection comes from the Gore Dako washing station—one of the most exciting new additions to the famed Kata Muduga Cooperative. Since its opening in 2019, Gore Dako has quickly earned a reputation for producing exquisitely clean and fruit-forward coffees.
Sourced from over 700 smallholder farmers near the Belete Geera Forest, this coffee thrives in fertile, sandy loam soil and is cultivated under natural shade provided by false banana and maize. The farmers in this region are experts in organic, forest-integrated coffee cultivation, a tradition that helps preserve Ethiopia’s incredible biodiversity—home to over 60 indigenous coffee varieties collectively known as Ethiopian Landrace.
Processing at Gore Dako is meticulous: cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness, floated to remove defects, depulped using a Penagos eco-pulper, then soaked overnight before drying on raised beds for 6 to 8 days. This careful attention results in a stunningly clean cup with layered complexity.
Tasting Notes:
Elegant and balanced, this coffee opens with citrus zest and green apple, unfolding into sweet notes of ripe peach, apricot, and brown sugar, with a silky medium body and oolong tea-like finish.
