Geisha E-F — Finca Maria Bonita, Marcala, Honduras
Rated 96 Points by Coffee Review — #9 on Coffee Review’s Top 50 Coffees of 2025
(Highest score ever awarded to a Honduran coffee)
This exceptional small-lot Geisha comes from Finca Maria Bonita, a hillside farm in Marcala, Honduras, owned by Pedro Turcios, brother to our longtime producing partner Juan Urquía. Grown at approximately 1600 MASL, this Ethiopia-type Geisha expresses the bright florals, refined sweetness, and crystalline structure that make this variety so prized.
Pedro’s Geisha E-F (E-F for Extended Fermentation) undergoes whole-cherry extended anaerobic fermentation for 24–48 hours before depulping, followed by a classic washed process. This method deepens aromatics while preserving the elegant clarity of the cup.
Expect a vibrant, expressive profile featuring jasmine-like florals, tropical fruit, citrus brightness, and cane-sugar sweetness, presented with remarkable balance and precision.
About Ethiopia-Type Geisha
Before Geisha gained worldwide fame through its cultivation in Panama, the variety originated in the highland forests of western Ethiopia. The Ethiopia-type Geisha now grown in Central America reflects this ancestral lineage—celebrated for delicate florals, layered sweetness, and lively acidity.
In the mountains of Marcala, this heritage expression takes on a slightly rounder fruit profile and a gentle honeyed finish, combining the elegant aromatics of Ethiopian genetics with the distinct character of Honduran terroir.
