The Place & Producers Finca del Carmen is owned and operated by Martin Turcios, who named the farm in honor of his wife's family name. Located at a crisp 1600 meters in the renowned Marcala region, the farm benefits from ideal high-altitude growing conditions that allow coffee cherries to mature slowly and develop rich, concentrated sugars.
Martin is part of a dedicated family of producers. He is the brother of our long-time direct trade partner, Juan Urquia. Working directly with Juan and his family for years allows us to source exceptional coffees while ensuring complete transparency and directly supporting the growers who dedicate their lives to this craft.
Processing This lot is processed using the traditional washed method. Selective hand-picking ensures only ripe cherries are harvested, which are then depulped, fermented to break down the mucilage, and thoroughly washed with clean water.
The blend of the robust Parainema variety with classic Catuai—combined with high-altitude growing and clean processing—results in a remarkably clear, sweet, and articulate cup profile.
In the Cup An intriguing and decadent profile balanced by crisp fruit sweetness. You may find notes of:
-
Dubai chocolate (rich chocolate and pistachio)
-
subtle white chocolate
-
juicy pear
A Unique Honduran Profile This lot showcases the incredible potential of Marcala's high-altitude microclimates. The unique "Dubai chocolate" note brings a rich, nutty, and velvety complexity, while the fresh pear notes lend a bright, elegant sweetness. It is a distinctive, deeply comforting coffee that highlights the skill and care of the Turcios-Urquia family.
